Who is Equipo?
Based in Boulder, Colorado, Equipo is a cycling and adventure company. We are a team, and this is the meaning of the word in Spanish. We invite you to join us on cycling tours in amazing destinations – Colorado, Colombia and Spain.
What is included in the Equipo Tours?
Equipo includes more of everything: luxury accommodations, exquisite meals, welcome cocktails, professional cycling staff and knowledgeable pro, local guides. English and Spanish is spoken on our tours in Colorado, Spain and Colombia. In Mallorca, Spain, we expand our linguistic capabilities to include German, Czech and Mallorquin. We offer full SAG support, professional bike mechanics and the best of what each destination has to offer. Our maximum cycling groups are 16 cyclists, allowing us to offer a premium level of service. We make an exception for custom tours which can be as large as 30-35 cyclists and it is based on availability of lodging in whatever region you choose. Equipo assembles and packs your back on your arrival and before your departure of the tour. And, the mechanics clean and tune each bike before each day’s ride. During every stage, our staff includes professional cyclists to ride with the group. Their role is to make sure that cyclists are informed of details of the ride, support the riders with water and food, and if needed, give a little push with encouragement along the way. With every 6 riders, we have a SAG team. Each car/minibus has a bike rack for 4 bikes or more. The car is driven by a professional bike mechanic or driver, and is accustomed to accompanying cycling teams. The car is fully equipped for the needs of the ride. Your Equipo bike tour includes everything except gratuities for Equipo staff. We also do not include the cost of airfare. Standard tour inclusions consist of transportation to and from your starting and ending locations, luxury/boutique accommodations, daily meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), daily snacks and hydration, experienced guides, local experts and access to exclusive sites. In our Quindio and Antioquia tours in Colombia, we have a personal chef team by Bakkho, who has accompanied dignitaries (former U.S. Presidents Bush and Clinton). In Colorado and Mallorca, Spain, we keep the same high international standards to include places and touches that make the cycling tour memorable. Get yourself there, and we will take care of everything else – and much more. Learn more about the Equipo Difference.
How many people can I expect to be on my bike tour?
How many people can I expect to be on my bike tour? The maximum group size on our scheduled departures is 16 with two tour guides. Equipo bike tour guides are attentive to each traveler’s needs and always available to help out with anything. Safety is high priority and therefore, we are attentive to all our customers, especially their riding level. In Colombia, for instance, we have the capability to match your pace no matter how many cyclists are in the tour. No rider is left behind. We spend quality time before getting on our bikes to convey the important tips and safety process for each stage.
Are bikes included in the tour price?
In our Colombia and Colorado tours , we do not include bike rental however it is optional. We offer a bike fleet by Alchemy Bicycles and it’s important to make us aware as soon as you book your tour that you would like to rent a bike and your size. How do I know what cycling tour level is right for me?
We have defined riding levels in the Cycling Fitness Section, where you can find our definitions for beginner to avid cyclists. Avid = fast and strong recreational cyclists, for example. If you’re a pro, we’d be happy to show you the way, and look forward to that opportunity. If you’re a beginner, we welcome you to join our tours and look forward to that opportunity as well. The only difference is when we advertise a training camp or custom journey and specify that the tour is meant for an intermediate/avid cyclists, because this level might be looking for a focused training camp-style and less attention on leisurely activities.
What is the terrain like on the Equipo bike trips?
We have chosen roads that offer the best options for safety, comfort and challenge. For those not accustomed to riding at altitude (above 5,000 feet) for example in Colorado and Colombia (some regions are lower than others), we will guide you with a few tips to become accustom to the altitude. Sometimes arriving a few days beforehand, can help. Colombia’s terrain has mountains, rollers and flats. Sometimes we reach high altitude where riding can be more difficult. By understanding the riding levels, it is important to be ready as a cyclist to tackle the intensity on such terrain. In Mallorca, Spain, the terrain is also a variety of flats, rollers and mountains, however shorter loops can be possible for those who are at a beginner level. We can always adapt our routes to the needs of the group, during a custom, private tour. Even if there is one person out of the group that wants to go the complete distance (and the weather conditions permit, of course), it’s our pleasure to meet this request without interrupting the group entirely.
Should I book my trip and how can I reserve my space?
The further in advance you book, the greater availability of dates you’ll find. We are continuing to add more dates for 2016. We don’t have a “shopping cart” experience for booking a tour, because we are carefully tuned into to each customer who is interested in joining a tour. Simply go to the destination (Colombia, Colorado, Spain) and find the dates that are available. Click on the “Reserve Space” button and fill it out with your information. Please do not book airfare until we confirm the availability. A space isn’t reserved until we have your deposit and then we will send you instructions to continue with making your airfare. Equipo will contact you within 1- 2 business days to finalize your reservation. During the process, we are always available to share insights or more information.
Will I need a passport and visa for my cycling trip?
For Colombia: A passport is required for travel. A visa is not required for U.S. citizens provided you are staying in the country less than 90 days. Leave one copy at home with a friend or relative, and bring one copy with you and keep it separate from the original documents. Should I purchase travel insurance for my bike tour?
